Highball & Collins Glasses

A highball is the friendliest shape we decorate. The wall is tall, nearly straight and barely tapered, so artwork laid out flat lands almost exactly as drawn and a near-full wrap is genuinely possible. That freedom is what tempts people into the one design that does not work.

The limit is the seam. A screen-printed wrap has to start and stop somewhere, and where the two ends meet there is either a small gap or a slight overlap. On a design with a continuous background this is visible, and no amount of care removes it entirely. The fix is a design with a natural break in it, or a deliberate vertical element at the join. We show exactly where the seam will land at proof.

Everything else is straightforward. These are usually specified in tempered stock for service, decorated in fired ceramic ink where they go behind a bar and organic ink where they go home in a box, and kept clear of the rim by at least 20mm. The tall wall also makes them one of the better shapes for a two-colour design, because there is enough height to separate elements properly.

Is tempered glass necessary?

For bar service, generally yes. Tempered glass resists thermal shock and impact considerably better, which matters when glasses go from a hot wash to an ice well several times a day. It is not unbreakable, and when it does fail it fails suddenly into small pieces rather than shards. For retail and gifting, annealed stock is perfectly appropriate and often looks better because the wall can be thinner.
